Konstantin
Lifschitz Plays Bach (Books 1 and 2), BWV 846-893 Bach's magnum opus, The Well-Tempered Clavier, is, for keyboard artists, a daunting master-piece exploiting the very limits of the instrument and those who brave its challenges. The young Russian pianist Konstantin Lifschitz has made Bach a specialty in his programming and his performances of the complete Well-Tempered Clavier - played from memory - in New York and Miami have elicited superlatives from the critics. David
Oistrakh: Vol. 1 David Oistrakh (1908-1974) had few peers among violinists of his generation and continues to this day to be regarded as one of the supreme musicians of the 20th century. His playing, technically impeccable and sumptuous in tone and dramatic flair, served his interpretations eloquently. Yet there was no grandstanding in an Oistrakh performance. To one observer, he played with the quiet concentration of a chess master. The highlight of the wide-ranging program on this DVD is the world premiere performance of the Shostakovich Second Violin Concerto, composed, as was the composer's first Violin Concerto, with Oistrakh in mind. Earl
Wild - Rachmaninoff Solo Works Earl Wild and the piano music of Rachmaninoff have always been a match made in heaven. Mr. Wild was a good friend of Rachmaninoff and attended every public concert East of the Mississippi, from the time he was a early teen (in the late 1920s) until the composers death in 1943. The 1991 & 1992 recordings of the two sets of piano Variations, Sonata No. 2, and Preludes are remastered. An added bonus to this 2-CD set are three of Rachmaninoff's most popular piano transcriptions. |
